👨‍💻 AI and its impact on the job market

Bill Gates reckons AI spells the end for Amazon and searching for stuff on Google

Bill Gates reckons AI spells the end for Amazon and searching for stuff on Google. Gates believes that whoever wins the race to create a personal agent, software that integrates into a person’s daily life and assists them in mundane tasks, will be the winner. He thinks this technology is imminent but acknowledges that current AI models are not there yet. Gates also suggests that robots will replace blue-collar workers while AI takes care of white-collar jobs. However, he believes we’ll be in a pattern of companies adding AI to existing products before an all-encompassing personal assistant emerges.

Opera launches new integrated AI sidebar powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT

Opera launches new integrated AI sidebar powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Opera has launched an AI side panel called Aria, powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The feature is designed to make it easier for users to find information on the web, generate text or code and get product queries answered. It can also answer questions about Opera itself as it is knowledgeable about the browser’s “whole database of support documentation”. Aria connects to OpenAI’s GPT technology and adds live results from the web. The new feature is currently available for testing in more than 180 countries via Opera One or Android beta versions of the browser.

Worried About Sending Your Data to a Chatbot? 'PrivateGPT' Is Here

PrivateGPT is an open-source model that allows users to ask questions based on their own documents without an internet connection. Created by a developer named Iván Martínez Toro, PrivateGPT runs locally on your home device and requires you to first download an open-source Large Language Model (LLM) called gpt4all. After the LLM is trained, users can ask any questions to the model and it will answer using the documents provided as context. Privacy has become a major concern with online AI models that are hooked up to corporate servers.

🧐AI and search engine optimization

AI Will Augment SEO

AI Will Augment SEO. Search engine optimization (SEO) companies are using metadata alone to boost rankings, which can lead to non-optimized but high-quality content being outranked by lower quality content with more alluring meta-data. Researchers at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences found that users consistently select items prominently placed by SEO, regardless of their medical efficacy. The solution is artificial intelligence (AI), according to Google’s senior vice president in charge of search Prabhakar Raghavan and Kevin Lee, CEO of the eMarketing Association. AI will allow search engines to “read” web page content and improve results based on qualitative matches rather than depending solely on SEO.

Meta Is Training Its AI on the Bible and Other Religious Texts

Meta Is Training Its AI on the Bible and Other Religious Texts. Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has developed an AI-powered text-to-speech technology that can identify over 4,000 languages. The firm is using religious texts such as the Bible to train its models in order to preserve endangered languages. Meta’s dataset includes recordings of Bible stories, evangelistic messages and scripture readings in more than 6,255 languages and dialects. While most recordings feature male readers, Meta says its models work equally well for female voices. The company is open-sourcing its data and code so others can build on it.

OpenAI Beats Elon Musk to Market: AI Humanoid Robots Are Already Taking Your Jobs

OpenAI Beats Elon Musk to Market: AI Humanoid Robots Are Already Taking Your Jobs. OpenAI-funded robotics startup 1X has launched AI-powered humanoid robots in real-world settings, including as security guards. The robot, EVE, is also capable of performing tasks such as nursing and bartending. EVE has been activated in select locations across Europe and the US since April this year and surpassed initial expectations. CEO Bernt Bornich foresees the humanoid easing labour shortages by substituting for human workers, with plans to deploy them in assisted living facilities and hospices soon. OpenAI predicted earlier this week that such deployment could happen within five to ten years.

Twitter ‘melts’ as it becomes first social app to launch a presidential bid

Twitter ‘melts’ as it becomes first social app to launch a presidential bid. Twitter experienced technical glitches during the launch of Republican hopeful Ron DeSantis’s presidential bid on its Spaces feature. The event was supposed to start at a scheduled time, but when it did, the online audience waiting patiently in the audio-only Space was met with a sudden screeching sound. After half an hour and using a newly created Space, the technical issues seemed to dissipate and Sacks was soon rejoined by DeSantis and Elon Musk. Eventually, DeSantis announced his candidacy for president on Twitter after speaking with around 890,000 listeners for over an hour.

Sam Altman Says OpenAI Will Leave the EU if There's Any Real AI Regulation

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s overseas charm offensive is continuing the AI hype train he started with his recent talks in front of U.S. Congress. Though unlike in the AI-friendly U.S., Altman has threatened to take his big tech toys to the other end of the sandbox if they’re not willing to play by his rules.

That’s all for now. Stay tuned for more updates on AI and its developments.
